Beginning

Throughout the years, all achievements have changed year by year. During the period of reform and opening up, China's industrial development was very poor. At that time, Shenzhen was just a small fishing village and processing factory. After more than 40 years, China has developed rapidly and become the world's largest industrial manufacturing country, and Shenzhen has also become an influential "City of Design" in the world. All these splendid achievements were made step by step with the joint efforts of pioneers who held the Chinese dream of realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. SIDA has been one of the strivers.

As General Secretary Xi Jinping said: "The Chinese nation has formed a great national spirit and traditional culture, which are also the culture that makes the Chinese nation last forever and prosper." The spirits of striving and hard working are rooted in Chinese people. Therefore, SIDA has aimed to integrate with international standards and connect industries since its establishment, determining to lead Chinese design to the world.

During these years, the stable environment, profound national culture and strong national spirit have made every Chinese proud. With the leadership of the party, the support of the government, the promotion of policies, and the efforts of pioneers and strivers in the design industry, SIDA is able to lead Chinese design to the world.

Development

14 years ago, with the doubt about Chinese design “No design, just copy!”, SIDA did not quit when faced with difficulties but became more courageous with each setback. SIDA led the team representing "Chinese Design" to 100% Design London as "Shenzhen Pavilion". This was the first time for Chinese design to show on the international stage. It was also a big step for SIDA to take on China’s design to global exchanges.

However, this achievement is far from enough for SIDA. “Let the world know about Chinese design” is SIDA’s ambitious goal. In the following ten years, SIDA broke the stereotypes and guided the way with new ideas and a global vision. It founded the Shenzhen International Industrial Design Fair, which has become the world's first industrial design exhibition, and established the Sino-Finnish Design Park, an innovative carrier of the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone.

With the support and companionship of designers and partners, SIDA has broken the monopoly and led the direction. Their stories with SIDA draw the extraordinary history of SIDA for 15 years. 15 years later, SIDA brings together the stars to reminisce about the past and savor its achievements.

Breakthrough

2022 was the 10th year of the Shenzhen International Industrial Design Fair. It was also an important but difficult time for SZIDF. With the impact of the pandemic, SIDA faced many challenges and the launching date had been delayed. But opportunities come along with challenges. Finally, SIDA broke through the difficulties and created results beyond expectations in December. The SZIDF was held successfully and released the Shenzhen Declaration on Global Design at the opening ceremony.

Looking back at the past and looking towards the future. In the past ten years, SIDA has been taking the Shenzhen International Industrial Design Fair as a platform to link Chinese designs with the world. Based on the achievements have made, the SZIDF would break the boundaries of time, space and thought with a brand-new concept, restarting the era with unbounded design this year.

On this significant day for the world's industrial designers, Jamy Yang, the curator of the 11th Shenzhen International Industrial Design Fair, released the main visual of SZIDF2023. He is a collector and also the founder of YANG DESIGN and YANG HOUSE, and has been listed as “Top Influential Chinese Designer” on Forbes.

New Chapter

This year marks the 15th anniversary of Shenzhen, the “City of Design”, and also the establishment of SIDA. Today, for SIDA, is a day of gratitude and a day of a new start. The partners of SIDA are all rushing to the same place tonight – Shenzhen, the "City of Design". With the same wishes, they came back from all over the world to celebrate this big day together. The day that belongs to SIDA, belongs to Shenzhen, the "City of Design", and belongs to China's industrial design.

Tonight, the Shenzhen Women's Federation and SIDA jointly held the "Stars in the Summer" charity event to speak out for love on World Crafts and Design Day. With the theme of "Children Embracing Stars", the hand-painted customized shoes would be free of charge. The customized shoes would be sold in the form of charity mystery boxes, and all proceeds would be used to care for children with autism.

SIDA would like to take this opportunity to thank all the pioneers who made great contributions to industrial design, and keep insisting on “people-centered” design, attracting and engaging good designs with faith, dreams, and hopes.
