On the afternoon of February 27, 2024, Rachel Crump, Consul General of New Zealand in Guangzhou, Veronica Char, Commercial Officer of the Consulate General of New Zealand in Guangzhou, and Serena Zeng, Policy Advisor of the Consulate General of New Zealand in Guangzhou, visited Shenzhen Industrial Design Profession Association (SIDA) to know more about the development of design and innovation projects facilitated by SIDA.

During the visit, Consul General Rachel Crump and her delegation visited the International Exhibition Hall of Sino-Finnish Design Park, Shenzhen Open Innovation Lab and Shenzhen Z WAVE DESIGN, and had an in-depth understanding of the enterprises and the positioning and operation mode of the park, as well as the development status and innovation achievements of Shenzhen's industrial design industry.


International Exhibition Hall of Sino-Finnish Design Park

As a display window focusing on new models and new formats in the field of global design innovation, the International Exhibition Hall of Sino-Finnish Design Park displays the latest works of internationally renowned design masters, emerging design enterprises from home and abroad, iF Design Award and other international well-known awards, recording the achievements and development of Sino-Finnish Design Park since its establishment.

Shenzhen Open Innovation Lab

 Shenzhen Open Innovation Lab is an international open platform and space for makers jointly built by MakerCollider and Shenzhen Industrial Design Profession Association. It is also the first international microscopic assembly lab in Shenzhen authorized by the Bit and Atom Center (CBA) of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The lab is also an MIT FabLab 2.0 partner. Shenzhen Open Innovation Lab mainly includes Fab Lab promotion and Fablab 2.0 R&D and manufacturing, maker innovation and entrepreneurship education, global maker service platform, and industrial chain collaboration services. It is committed to developing global maker projects and products, and developing solutions to connect large-scale production ecosystems and serve small hardware entrepreneurs; as well as to further promote Shenzhen's international position in the development and manufacturing of digital intelligent hardware, combine with the new open source method and Shenzhen's existing agile manufacturing system, building Shenzhen the Silicon Valley of intelligent hardware in the future.

Shenzhen Z WAVE DESIGN

Founded in 2020, Shenzhen Z WAVE DESIGN is a partnership design firm composed of experienced designers in the industry. Based on brand and product, Shenzhen Z WAVE DESIGN provides brand strategy, VI design, IP design, product appearance design, packaging design and other services, and creates a brand CI identification system and product PI language system. Whether from brand to product or from product to brand, Z WAVE DESIGN emphasizes the correlation between the two, through accurate brand positioning and product positioning, to create differentiated products and brands in line with the market and consumer groups.

At the meeting, President Shirley Feng introduced in detail the achievements of Shenzhen Industrial Design Profession Association and Sino-Finnish Design Park over the years of empowering cities with industrial design as the starting point, driving industrial transformation, helping to promote Chinese design, as well as presenting a profound outlook on the future development prospects of Shenzhen's design innovation industry.

Consul General Rachel Crump introduced the advantages of New Zealand's key industries, and stressed that Christchurch, as the third largest city in New Zealand, plays an important role in leading innovation. She hopes to deepen the friendly connection between Chinese and New Zealand cities through design innovation, and expand the international market. It will lay a solid foundation for the in-depth development of future cooperation. At the same time, by drawing on SIDA's successful experience in exploring new demand, new market and new economy through industrial design, it will help New Zealand small and medium-sized design enterprises to seamlessly connect with domestic advantageous industries, promote innovation and industrial upgrading, and inject new impetus into the economic development of the two countries.


This research exchange not only demonstrates the profound foundation of cooperation between China and New Zealand in the field of design innovation, but also draws a grand blueprint for the future development of the two places. By deepening cooperation, the two countries are expected to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results in many areas and move towards a more prosperous future together.
